In May of 1980 Stuart Glass bought Strathearn and ceased all paperweight production. In May of 1978 Strathearn discontinued many of their older line of weights, the P10, P22, P21, DK1, DK2, D29, P33, P34, D4, PSF102, PSF222, PSF212 and the DSF43 and introduced a new range of weights the P36, P37, P38, P39, P40, P41 and the new Limited Edition Series the P8DS and P7DS. In early 1979 Strathearn introduced their new Range of weights the SP100, SP101, SP102, PPS100, PPS101, PPS102, PSFS100, PSFS101 and PSFS102 plus a new Classic Range Table lamp ML.900 and a new line of Engraved and sculptured crystal and glass with sandblasted designs designated as SSB. My point in presenting the above information is that Stuart Glass apparently already had some influence on Strathearn's Glassline as early as 1979 and it was probably late in 1979 or perhaps early 1980 before Strathearn knew that all paperweight production would be soon stopped. I was originally going to place most of the canes in this 1980 album in the 1979 album but todate I've seen very few dated 1979 weights that contained many or any of these new complex canes so I think that in keeping with the new paperweight lines introduced in 1978 and 1979 Strathearn probably felt that new lines would also be issued in 1980 and so on, hence these beautiful complex canes were made most likely for trial reviews for management and in limited quanities but once the incoming Stuart management decided to cease all paperweight production these small supplies of complex canes were used in a few weights of various designs to use this stock up before the Strathearn paperweight portion was mothballed. I have noted on some of these canes where they show up in other weights and if and when I find some of these canes in dated 1979 weights I will move that cane to the 1979 album. For the time being I am placing all of these canes in the 1980 album.
