This is one of the few Commemorative Paperweights that Strathearn made for Special Occasions. I have placed the 'special" EIIR Crown weights and the EIIR77 Lace weights into their own catagories but all other found Commemorative weights will be found in this album catagory. While we don't know how many of these 1978 World Cup weights were made, Donald McDonald stated in an article he authored for the December 2004 "Paperweight Collectors Circle" Newsletter no.86..."We also produced a 1978 Scotland World Cup football paperweight and there are not very many of those about!"

DCP04627 Scotland/Argentina 1978 World Cup...Strathearn Commemorative Scotland-Argentina 1978 World Cup football or soccer weight in a Portrait Style and clear ground, 3.18" x 1.4" and 16 ozs. Portrait Style with a top and side facet. All of Strathearn's pwts that have a side facet for standing the weight on its side and having a top facet are called "Portrait" weights. Flat cut polished base. Etch signed over top of side facet "Strathearn". Not otherwise signed or dated. No label. Circa 1978 only. Very limited production but total unknown at this time. I've seen only one other one to date. acquired 04-01-05.
