Here we have Strathearn's P6 Upright Flower weight described formally as .."an open flower with leaves growing from a dark ground in a drop-shaped clear glass weight". Strathearn also indicated that these were signed and dated but I've found some with NO signature or date, some only with an 'S' cane and others with a combination of signature and date canes positioned in or on the ground or placed on the base of the weight. Stated colors were in Turquoise, Madder (a reddish/pink color) and Gentian (a rich, deep blue almost looking velvety purple at times). Sizes ranging from 3.5" to almost 5.0". Circa 1965 to 1980.
DCP04930P6 Exp White Flower... Strathearn P6 experimental or one-off five petal upright flower in white set over three green leaves with a donut shaped ring of Ysart/Vasart, Strathearn broken cane pieces with a concave black interior ground, 3.8" x 2.8" and 25.0 ozs. Flat cut and polished base with a basil ring and a concave polished smooth pontil mark area. No label but this weight came from the estate of a Doctor in Signal Mountain, TN and had a hand written note on the base purporting that this was made by Vincent Ysart for the Doctors wife. This flower weight is unusual not only for the white flower but that the flower petals are raised from a stem cup and then folded outwards unlike other Strathearn P6 flower weights that have thinner petals, a lower profile and more drooping outward petals. I tried to get more info from the seller and estate auction house but none was forecoming. If this was indeed made by Vincent then it is likely circa late 1964 (before Vasart closed in November) to early 1965 (before Vincent left Strathearn). I will try to post some closeup photos of the broken cane pieces soon. acquired 07-19-10.
