P14 Carpet Millefiori Closepack Large - # - Richard More (strathearn)'s Photos

This is Strathearn's Large Carpet millefiori or Closepack weight. The number of canes packed into these weights can range from the 70's to well over 100. The sizes range from 2.70+ to over 3.0". I don't know at this time when these were discontinued but I have a copy of a Strathearn brochure/catalog dated May 1, 1978 and they are NOT listed as an actively produced weight so I would suspect that they were produced from 1965 until probably around 1977. They always have a colored ground as I have not seen one this size on a clear ground. As with many Strathearn weights it is not unusual to find earlier Vasart canes among the Strathearn canes in these weights. While in production this P14 series was extended to the PP14 and PSF142 series.

DCP04101P14...Strathearn P14 Large Carpet Millefiori Closepack on a bright blue ground, 2.7" x 2.1" and 14 ozs. Flat cut with a concave fire-polished smooth pontil mark base. Blue Strathearn label. Circa 1965 to 1977. acquired 11-06-00.

DCP04105P14...Strathearn P14 Large Carpet Millefiori Closepack on a bright yellow ground, 2.7" x 2.15" and 14 ozs. Concave fire-polished smooth with a raised pontil mark base. A terrific weight, almost four concentric rows around four central canes with terrific cane colors highlighted on a yellow background, circa 1965 to 1977. acquired 11-20-00.

DCP04197P14...Strathearn P14 Large Carpet Millefiori Closepack on a red spatter ground, 2.9" x 2.2" and 17 ozs. Concave fire-polished semi-smooth pontil mark base. No label. Very nice with a spattering of late Vasart canes, circa 1965 to 1972. acquired 09-27-01.
