Richard More (strathearn)  > Strathearn Paperweights > Experimental Millefiori Weights
These stunning Strathearn paperweights #1, #2, #3, #4 and #6 were all made by Herbert Dreier and I have written confirmation from him that he made them in the 1979 to 1980 period before Strathearn ceased all paperweight production with the exception of the tall three-tiered millefiori one which I believe was also made by him. This magnificient triple-tiered millefiori weight is just stunning in all of its details using three standard spoke designs tiered inside of a P6 style glass. A one of a kind weight. The "C" scroll weight is also most likely by Herbert as the blue multi-rod canes are his design and each of the six scrolls is capped with a complex millefiori cane. Paperweights #1, #2, #3 and #6 were featured in two articles I authored in 2003 one for the Delaware Valley PCA newsletter of September 2003 and one for the Cambridge Paperweight Circle newsletter of December 2003. It is a shame that Strathearn ceased paperweight production in 1980 and that Dave Moir, Herbert Dreier and others did not have the opportunity to continue developing their talents. It is obvious from these weights that their talent and skill was considerable. Other Experimental, Trial or One off Strathearn's will be added as acquired or as provided courtesy of Private Collectors.

DCP04716 Exp Pattern Millefiori 1979-80-1... Strathearn experimental faceted patterned millefiori in a six arm starfish design set on a black cushion ground, 2.9" x 2.1" and 16 ozs. The top facet is concave as are the six oval side facets. The base is concave and fire-polished smooth with a raised pontil mark. Black Strathearn label. Not dated or signed. I asked Dave Moir about this weight but he says he did not make it and does not remember who might have but was most likely made during the 1979-80 period when they had more freedom to try personal ideas and experimental weights. acquired 5-30-06.
DCP04756 J Allen S cane Spoke 1965-66-1... Strathearn special or one-off P7 cartwheel spoke type weight made by Jack Allen using an early Strathearn 'S' cane and both Vasart and early Ysart canes, 3.025" x 2.15" and 17 ozs on a clear ground. Slightly concave polished base with a pontil mark. No label. Not dated but circa 1965-66 with an early Strathearn 'S' cane. I asked Dave Moir about this 'S' cane and he said that he and Jack made this 'S' cane at Strathearn and it was used in a number of early Strathearn weights but as he remembers this cane was never used in any Vasart period weights. acquired 11-09-07.
DCP10832 J Allen P7 Spoke 1966... Strathearn special one-off P7 cartwheel spoke type weight made by Jack Allen using a 1966 date cane and using possible Strathearn, Vasart and early Ysart canes on a clear ground, 3.0" x 2.0" and approximately 16.0 ozs. Note: this is the first known weight made at Strathearn using a 1966 date cane. Slightly concave polished base with a pontil mark evident. No label. circa 1966 date cane.
