1946 to 1955 Ysart Vasart canes or older : These paperweights and canes are all from the Ysart Bros/Vasart period of 1946 to 1955 in my opinion. Some of these canes may date even further back to the Monart Period of the early 1930's to early 1940's. Some of these canes can be found in the paperweights of Paul Ysart giving credence to the developing thought that when Salvador Ysart and sons left Moncrieff Glass a number of these canes were simply divided up between Salvador and Paul. A number of these canes can be viewed in known early Ysart/Vasart and Paul Ysart's pwts on Kevin Holts excellent site at http://www.btinternet.com/~kevh.glass/ Once there click on the heading for Pre-1956 Salvador Ysart/Vasart. Some of these canes also show up in later Strathearn Pwts even up to as late as 1979. Please note that as with all of my albums they are a work in progress and so if some of these canes are later determined to be of the Vasart period of 1956 to 1964 they will be moved accordingly.

1956 Vasart Canes Pirelli labled : These canes are all from actual Black and Silver Pirelli labeled Vasart paperweights. It is presently assumed that 1956 was the only year in which these Pirelli labels were used although they may have been used for a few years from 1956. While these labeled weights can somewhat be assumed to be from circa 1956 it does not mean that these particular canes were actually made in 1956. They could well have been made in earlier years and appropriate notations will be made on those canes appearing in earlier period weights when found. Thanks to Private Collectors this cane album is expanding to cover more of these period canes. According to Dave Moir who started with Vasart in 1953 Vasart sold paperweights and other glassware to Pirelli and Pirelli labels were then placed on these items. Dave can not remember ever having seen or had a Pirelli label at Vasart.

1956 to 1964 Vasart Canes Black & Silver Label : These canes are all from actual Black & Silver labeled Vasart paperweights. Since Vasart never dated any of their paperweights it is currently impossible (and may always remain so) to more closely date any of these canes other than to say circa 1956 to 1964. Some of these canes may well have been made prior to 1956 and it will be noted on those canes as information is found. It is also possible to find some of these canes in later Strathearn paperweights. While these canes can't be used to date any other Vasart weights other than also as between 1956 to 1964 they do show the diversity, color, designs and complexity of Vasart's canes. Please note that just because these canes show up in Black & Silver labeled weights indicative of the 1956 to 1964 period does not mean that these canes were actually made in this period. Some of them may well date from the earlier Ysart/Vasart period of 1946 to 1955 and those canes found in weights from the older period will be so noted.

1980 Strathearn Canes : In May of 1980 Stuart Glass bought Strathearn and ceased all paperweight production. In May of 1978 Strathearn discontinued many of their older line of weights, the P10, P22, P21, DK1, DK2, D29, P33, P34, D4, PSF102, PSF222, PSF212 and the DSF43 and introduced a new range of weights the P36, P37, P38, P39, P40, P41 and the new Limited Edition Series the P8DS and P7DS. In early 1979 Strathearn introduced their new Range of weights the SP100, SP101, SP102, PPS100, PPS101, PPS102, PSFS100, PSFS101 and PSFS102 plus a new Classic Range Table lamp ML.900 and a new line of Engraved and sculptured crystal and glass with sandblasted designs designated as SSB. My point in presenting the above information is that Stuart Glass apparently already had some influence on Strathearn's Glassline as early as 1979 and it was probably late in 1979 or perhaps early 1980 before Strathearn knew that all paperweight production would be soon stopped. I was originally going to place most of the canes in this 1980 album in the 1979 album but todate I've seen very few dated 1979 weights that contained many or any of these new complex canes so I think that in keeping with the new paperweight lines introduced in 1978 and 1979 Strathearn probably felt that new lines would also be issued in 1980 and so on, hence these beautiful complex canes were made most likely for trial reviews for management and in limited quanities but once the incoming Stuart management decided to cease all paperweight production these small supplies of complex canes were used in a few weights of various designs to use this stock up before the Strathearn paperweight portion was mothballed. I have noted on some of these canes where they show up in other weights and if and when I find some of these canes in dated 1979 weights I will move that cane to the 1979 album. For the time being I am placing all of these canes in the 1980 album.
